You never know what may stroke a persons curiosity

i learned today that one can never know what may make a dedicated jw think.

i have a man working for me who is a pretty devout jw.

he knows i used to attend meetings and occasionaly tries to "rescue" me and i always throw him a few reasons as to why i quit and he just shrugs it off.

Our circuit assembly just finished today. During our session i got an opportunity to talk to some of my friends and sure enough i was able to fire some “smart ass” questions and made them wondering too. Some of these were:

Me: I think there’s a problem about our god given free will.

Jerson: why?

Me: it seems it has no purpose, after all of us are demanded to do god’s will. And what happens if we don’t follow?

Jerson: eventually well die

Me: or be killed. So free will is useless.

Jerson: yep. Well, god wants us to follow him by love not through compulsion.

Me: if that’s what he wants, what about designing us to really follow him, program our genes, instincts, and emotion to follow him without question. It’ll be much more neat & orderly than the present arrangement and avoid billions of casualties. The success & failure ratio between free individuals following his will and not will be very low with free will.

Jerson: that’s what also came to my mind when I’m thinking alone.

Well My friend is an architect & engineer and sure enough he has some training about efficiency in designing things in his field.

why i disbelieve

the following is a response to a jw friend who still occasionally tries to save my soul, or at least understand it.. his questions are in italics.. i have not yet sent this email.. ========================= what exactly is it that makes you disbelieve there's a god, or makes you unsure he exists?

i think a more sensical question is what makes you so sure he does?

when debating the existence of something invisible, the burden ofproof rests solidly on the shoulders of the believer.

Very well argued!! You express succinctly a summary of a doubting well-informed JW. Thanks for posting this. Will print it and may pass it to my friends and see what may be their reaction. (I have to translate it first to our dialect.)

Thanks for spending some time in your very inovative and imaginary idea. however the god you painted is same or worser than the JW teachings. he looks like a psycho.

But God's like that. He plays games. He turns the tables. He likes to wager and gamble. So he said man would die but he didn't say how long they would have to die.

It's INGENIUS! Just make a rule that EVERYBODY MUST DIE and kill everybody! Even your own only-begotten son.

by your discription, hes a gambler and doesn't have any regard for human life. plays with your life as if a bunch of cards and so much detached with feeling and symphathy of your pain. he considers the entire universe as a slot machine to played, manipulated, to be destroyed and be rebuild over and over again.

Basically all the good angels decided to die for God's cause for a short time and be brought back.

i haven't heard of that idea of angel resurection since. how did you know? or did you invented it?

MAN was created to get rid of Satan, because with MAN and the physical universe, you could have LAWS and SIN, and thus DEATH.

poor us. were just pawns and have very silly meaning to life. sory bro. however i find your ideas very good in making an epic story in the lines of goerge lucas.

this is what i dislike about our teachings. Its all imaginary and not factual. how many did see any angles in the field ministry. none. its just an assumption to make us feel safe and divinely approved. some may say, you cannot see them because they are spirits. but that too is also an assumption, an illusionary idea. so if they can't be seen how do we know that they are accompanying us in the field service. there is no proofs. its all imaginary.

this saddened me alot since many of my relatives can't see the shaky foundation of their beliefs. its all grounded on an illusion and imagination, not reality.

You know, I've yet to meet a JW who can explain this

i know that has probably been covered ad infinitum on jwd.

so...... if jehovah is omnipotent, then there is nothing he can't do and nothing he doesn't know.. and, according to jws (as well as most other religions), god is love.

therefore he had to have known, even before creating all of creation, what would happen.

It's my understanding that God gave us free-will in order that we will make the conscious decision to come to Him of our own accord. He doesn't want to force us to be His, otherwise that would be slavery, and that goes against His nature.

its also my understanding that this so called god given freekwill might be an illusion. whats the point in giving free will but making laws to constrain it and killing all those who will not adhere? free will is the cause of billions of death . and who gave it? god is still responsible for it. it would be better if we were just given programs to follow him instinctly, if this notion of god given free will is true.

this is also contradictory in itself. he says he's slow to anger and abudandt in loving kindness, but will hate you ang harbour grudge thoughout your offsprings and your offsprings' offsprings, if you defy him. so much of a forgiving loving god.

All mankind has sinned because our greatx4 grand father Adam sinned. sin is passed through generation. sins payment is death, so everyone will die. but jesus came and paid the sins of all by letting himself killed or willingly be put to death. (suicide?) so everyone could live and have everlasting life.

The contradiction:

2 Kings 14:6: Yet he did not put the sons of the assassins to death, in accordance with what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses where the LORD commanded: "Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their fathers; each is to die for his own sins."

Deuteronomy 24:16: Fathers shall not be put to death for their sons, nor shall sons be put to death for their fathers; everyone shall be put to death for his own sin.

so, if adams own sin resulted in his own death, we should not ,in anyway, be condemned with our greatx4 grand fathers guilt. the whole point of Jesus death is also useless.

Are you a HOPE-er or a DO-er?

three basic choices.
1. I can complain about it
2. I can take steps to bring about the conditions I desire by intelligent planning, careful choices and selective strategy
3.I can HOPE.

could we have those three choices at once, or in sequence? i think we could, in tackling some of our problems that we can change. First off we must feel the problem or realize it (and complain), then we could do something, and hope that our efforts could remedy it. hope could make us move consistently, not to despair, in our efforts in finding a solution to a certain problem.
